Millicent Wagner

Millicent Wagner, born in 1923, worked as a nurse at a naval hospital in Philadelphia during the war.

In her interview, Millicent talks about her birthday, which falls on December 8th, and how the incident at Pearl Harbor affected her  birthday party.

Hearing about Pearl Harbor

Everybody was worried about the war, but when I was nineteen, I was already in nurse’s training. It was the night before my birthday, December 7th, and I went to my sister’s for a birthday party. And after we had the birthday cake, my brother-in-law put the radio on. And Edward R. Murrow… came over the air and said, “The Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor.”
